Why You Should Upgrade to A Higher SEER Unit

If your air conditioning system has been working consistently for years, its durability has been proven. However, despite the wonders of having a functional HVAC unit to rely on for such a long time, the reality is that your dated air conditioner uses a lot of electricity to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home. The result? Increased, expensive energy consumption. Oftentimes, the reason for this pricer energy bill is that your older unit has a lower SEER rating than newer air conditioning systems available in Auburn, Alabama and the surrounding area today.

SEER Explained

You might wonder, what is SEER? SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. SEER is used when measuring a central air conditioning system’s efficiency. Essentially, a higher SEER rating means greater efficiency for that unit. For example, a system with a 20 SEER rating will be two times more efficient than a system with a 10 SEER rating. As time passes, the systems installed by HVAC manufacturers have higher SEER ratings, saving you money while simultaneously creating better functioning units. Great advances have been made over the past decade in improving the efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps. This is why at Spencer Heating & Air, we urge you to seriously consider updating your AC unit to one with a higher SEER. Why? To reap the numerous benefits of higher SEER units:

• Energy savings

One of the greatest benefits of investing in an HVAC unit with a higher SEER is the lowering of your utility bill following the new unit’s installation. The savings ultimately depend on the difference in SEER between your old unit and new unit. The difference in energy use will be reflected in your next utility bill!

• Improved moisture removal

A well-functioning air conditioning unit should be removing moisture from the air to create a more comfortable environment. Here in East Alabama, we know that this feature is particularly important. That’s another reason why we recommend high SEER units. They are particularly effective at this task because they cycle longer at lower pressures. With longer cooling cycles, there would be far fewer opportunities for mold and other humidity-related issues to be active because moisture is effectively removed from the air.

• Reduced Environmental Impact

High SEER AC units are more energy-efficient, meaning that having one installed in your home will help reduce your carbon footprint. Aside from having a higher SEER, newer air conditioners also use safer refrigerants, making the installation of a new, high SEER AC unit not only a financially responsible decision but an environmentally conscious decision as well.

• Future Buyers Will Desire a High SEER system

In a world where people are becoming more conscious about helping the environment, a high SEER AC unit in your home can become a unique selling point when the time comes. Your efficient air conditioning unit in the Auburn area will likely attract more potential buyers, and may even increase the value of your home.

There is great value in replacing your old AC unit with a new one.

  1. I want to install a new air conditioner in my son’s room as his current one is broken. Its great when you said that a benefit of investing in an HVAC unit with a higher SEER is the lowering of your utility bill. Thanks for the benefits of installing an AC with a high SEER and I hope that I can find a good AC for my house soon!

    1. They are talking about whole house A/C’s. You mentioned the one in your sons room is broken. I assume he has a store bought window shaker or a mini split if it’s only in his room. If it’s a mini split unit, they have the highest seer ratings in our industry depending on the specs. In my opinion, worth the extra upfront cash for the install. If the unit is installed in a window, it’s a store bought that will not have the benefits mentioned above.
      Stay Cool.

  2. Last weekend, I visited my parents and talked about how they don’t want to use their AC because they’re worried about their energy bills. I’m glad you explained we could install energy-efficient HVAC units that’ll help us save money, so I’ll be sure to call my parents and tell them about this. I appreciate your insight on HVAC units and why it’d be a good idea to upgrade yours.
