6 Most Common Appliance Issues and Repairs

Appliance Issues

If you’re like many Americans, you’ve always dreamed of owning a home. It’ll be where you finally get your independence, where you raise your family, and where you grow old. However, among all the great things that come along with owning a home, you also take on more responsibilities. Homes require proper maintenance such as the repair of any appliance issues, so you should know what to do when things break down. Don’t worry! We will help you figure it out. Here are  the most common appliance issues you may experience and how you can work towards repairing them.

1. Heating and Cooling System

Heating and cooling systems are designed to keep your whole home comfortable. However, when they experience issues, you’re left feeling uncomfortable and unhappy in your home. Some of these issues can be fixed by you such as ensuring the filter is changed regularly, checking to make sure the system is plugged in and turned on, as well as determining if the thermostat is set to the proper temperature.

However, larger problems will require the help of professionals like those at Spencer Heating & Air. Our technicians are trained to examine your system, diagnose problems, and can usually have them fixed in the same visit. If your HVAC system breaks down or is in need of repair, call Spencer Heating & Air.

2. Washing Machine

All washing machines develop an odor over time, so you’re likely to experience this problem sooner than later. However, there’s no need to go out shopping for a new washer just yet. Because this is such a common problem, brands have developed washing machine cleaners. You simply follow the directions of the cleaner you buy, which usually entails running it through 2 or 3 cycles to eliminate odors, and you’re done! If you’d rather create your own cleaner, you’ll need vinegar, baking soda, and hot water from the washer.

3. Ice Maker

Your ice maker breaking down is either a simple fix or a complicated issue that can rarely be handled on your own. An example of a simple fix is that there may be ice that melted and froze back up to clog the dispenser. If you’re experiencing issues with your ice maker, first empty everything out to make sure this isn’t the problem. If that doesn’t solve it, call a professional. It could be a larger issue that could lead to replacing the motor or refrigerant line. In this case the sooner you call, the better. appliance issues

4. Oven

To maintain a properly working oven, you’ll need to clean it regularly. Some ovens have a self-cleaning option, but if yours doesn’t you’ll want to look up how to best clean your specific type. If, after cleaning the oven, it’s still not working properly, check that the internal temperature sensor is working. There may not be a problem with the oven itself, just the sensor. If that’s working fine, call a professional. It might be time for a new oven.

5. Garbage Disposal

Modern garbage disposals are built with safety triggers to prevent them from overheating, running too long, or operating with mechanical errors. Because people often experience issues here and there with their disposals, a reset switch can usually be found to get your disposal up and running again. Read the manual of your disposal to find the reset switch and follow the directions on how to get it going again.

6. Microwave

If an issue with your microwave occurs, you’ll want to contact a professional before any further use of the appliance. Microwave issues can create an unsafe environment for your home and your family. Take this matter seriously and call an expert immediately.
